You should have a professional check your electrical in your home, as a professional is trained to know what to look for and has the proper tools to test and inspect your electrical system. If you however wish to still inspect it yourself here are some things to look for:

  1. Are your devices hot to the touch?
  2. Do you smell any unusual smells such as burning?
  3. Do you have aluminum wiring?
  4. Are your smoke detectors synced to the alarm at the same time?
  5. Do you have GFCI protection outside?
  6. Do you have GFCI protection near all sources of water?
  7. Do your GFCIs work properly?
  8. Do you have AFCIs if so do they test and rest properly?
  9. Do you have exposed wiring that is not mechanically protected?
